Pedestrian Bridge for International Garden Expo

    Type: Transport
    Area: 400 sqm
    Collaborator: Hongyue Gardening

    Stage: Completed

This quick pedestrian bridge design-build project tests our capability of coupling constructability with affordability concerns in parametric modeling with complex geometries. Imagined as a curling leaf over a tunnel, the canopy over the bridge offers a viewing window and hand rails with its pattern design. Originally designed as a doubly-curved surface, the canopy is then re-modeled and re-configured as a series of cone-like surfaces that are fully developable. All structural supports are positioned according to the maximum fabrication size of a local steel factory for the most efficient layout. The supporting structures as well as finishing details are optimized from spatial free form curves to a series of arcs, allowing the steel to never leave the local factory for best affordability.
